Summer is upon us and we’re celebrating the month of June with some big events. Our Spring season of The Castle and Library Cultural Programme is coming to an end with some fantastic events, including an Escape Room experience! But hot on it’s heels is the Summer programme with tales of Cornish Smuggling and a Summer pantomime – just brilliant! Be sure to pick up your free brochures at The Castle, Bude Library, Bude Tourist Information Centre and The Parkhouse Centre. You can also download them on our website. 

Our newly launched inspiring display from Bude’s Inner Wheel is now open to the public until the September and we have a new venture to encourage those interested in getting creative to come along to ‘The Castle Sketchbook on 19th June. 

We have more workshops and live music for you to enjoy now we have moved outside for events.  

We have something for everyone at The Castle Heritage Centre, Bude. We’re open seven days a week from 10am, with free entry to The Heritage Centre and Art Galleries. Café Limelight on the first floor is serving food and drink from a delicious menu with spectacular views across the beach and Castle grounds 😍. We are also dog-friendly venue. Please note that ball games are not permitted on our grounds, especially during our own events. If you see this activity please inform the Cafe staff.

Easter Heritage

🐰 EASTER HERITAGE FUN ON THE CASTLE GROUNDS 🐰 

📌 We have a number of events this Easter holiday on The Castle grounds, you’re in for a treat!  

➡️ Starting on Saturday 5th April, you can take part in the FREE Gurney Explorer Trail, collect a free activity sheet from Café Limelight on the first floor of The Castle Heritage Centre and hunt the museum for Gurney. You find him hiding in every nook and cranny. He holds a number of letters that you need to arrange to make a word. Once you have discovered it, revisit the cafe for a free sticker! The trail is open every day from 10am until its last day on Saturday 19th April as we will be closed on Easter Sunday. No booking required. 

➡️ You can also come along to our FREE ‘Lawn Games with Janie’ sessions on Tuesday 8th and 15th April and Thursday 10th & 17th April from 11am until 12pm. Discover some fun games such as chess and smite, plus more. No booking required, you will find Janie on The Castle lawn. 

🐠 We have the team from Bounce n’ Play with their inflatables on Wednesday 9th and 16th April, plus Thursday 10th and 17th April on The Castle Lawn. This is run by the team at Bounce n’ Play and will be weather dependent. You can find out more about them and any updates on cancellations on their dedicated Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/letsgoandparty. There is a small cost per child for these. They will be onsite from 11am until 4pm.  

➡️ Everyday you can also take part in the Fossil Fish Trail to find out some fascinating facts around the Museum. No activity sheet needed, just come along and find them whilst you browse the exhibitions. Free entry and open seven days a week from 10am.

🌷 Welcome to April 🌷 

 Spring is here and we celebrate this month with the launch of The Castle and Library Cultural Programme, which has a full programme of events for all the family through April and June. be sure to book your tickets early to not miss out on these exciting new events.  

Our newly launched inspiring exhibition; ‘Weathering The Storm’ celebrating Bude’s unsung heroes and the history of life-saving at sea, is now open to the public. 

We have more workshops and live music for you to enjoy as we start to move events outside. Don’t forget that we have new opening hours and a full programme of Easter activities for the family to enjoy.

Half Term Fun at The Castle

We have a number of free events this February Half-Term. Starting on Friday 7th Feb, you can take part in the Gurney Explorer Trail, collect a free activity sheet from the Cafe and hunt the museum for Gurney. You find him hiding in every nook and cranny. You can also come along to our free ‘Victorian Games’ session on Tuesday 18th Feb and Thursday 20th Feb from 11am until 12pm. Discover some fun games such as yo-yos, jacks, diablos, spinning topsn and more with our volunteer, Janie. No booking required, just pop along to The Storm Tower Room on the ground floor.

We have a special guest with us on Tuesday 18th Feb. Join well-loved children’s author, Naomi Jones as she reads ‘The Odd Fish’ in The Blanchminster Gallery from 11am until 11:45am. Tickets are free but need to be booked online at: https://wegottickets.com/event/646380

FREE Board Games at The Castle Returns

FREE Board Games at The Castle

Starting 18 January and every Saturday until the end of March, Café Limelight will be offering a selection of games to be enjoyed alongside your coffee, cake and lunches.

Open from 10am, we have games that the whole family can enjoy! What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon in the colder months.

Starting in January and every month throughout the Winter months, we celebrate local musicians to come and play at The Castle. nestled in the Willoughby Gallery, this is the perfect setting to come, sit, enjoy and treat yourself with something to eat and drink from Café Limelight.

Kids Festive Village Workshops

Kids Festive Village Workshops

Join us in this fun, festive activity, to design and decorate your own house, which will be a part of our Winter Village Display at our Festive Light Show on December 18th.

📌 We will be running two FREE craft workshops on Wednesday 11th December and Monday 16th December from 3.30pm until 5pm.

Fun for children of any age. All materials will be provided, but please wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting messy.

Heritage Tours this Winter

FREE Castle Heritage Tour

⭐ ‘FREE Castle Heritage Tour’ with Janine King ⭐ 11am – 12pm ⭐

Join Heritage Curator Janine King, for a guided tour of The Castle at our Heritage Festival. Built in 1830 by Sir Goldsworthy Gurney as one of his many experiments, today it houses a unique collection of artefacts. Discover more about Bude’s fascinating and diverse history, as well as the history of The Castle itself and its past residents.

ℹ️ Tours will last approximately 1 hour and commence at 11am. Please meet at the main entrance to The Castle approximately 15 minutes before we depart. The tour is accessible for wheelchair users with limited Disabled Parking next to the entrance at the top of the driveway.

🎄 Bude’s Christmas Fayre 2024, hosted by Bude-Stratton Town Council 🎄

As we prepare to celebrate our Christmas Fayre, we invite you and your friends and family to join us in a day of fun, entertainment, community and festivities

➡️ On Sunday 1st December 2024, The Castle Heritage Centre will be joining with The Parkhouse Community Centre to come together and enjoy a day of FREE entertainment and to support our local community.
Here’s what to expect this year………

THE CASTLE HERITAGE CENTRE will be a hub of festive activity, all free to participate in, so get the date in your diary and get ready for a festive treat!
• Free Magic Show
• Face Painting all day with Claire Taylor
• Kid’s Festive Crafting stations
• Santa’s Grotto, with a free decoration to craft
• Fionnuala Kirby playing Celtic harp music in The Willoughby Gallery.
• Betty Bluebird singing vintage festive tunes in the Willoughby Gallery
• Christmas Candle Wreath Workshop

THE PARKHOUSE COMMUNITY CENTRE will be fully open, with over 50 artisan stalls spread out around every room, as well as both foyers and outside.
• Expect FREE entertainment throughout with more acts being added as we speak.
• DJ Andy King will be back to get you in the festive mood.
• The Outside Inn will on hand to make sure that everyone is fed and watered, with a large selection of food and drinks.
• Festive Workshops will be held in Room 4, so get ready for the announcements as we deliver them in the next few weeks.

Remember entry is FREE for the whole day at both of our venues, what a fantastic way to spend a day supporting your local traders and community. The Fossil Fish Trail is a FREE activity, open all year round and has no activity sheet. Just visit, explore and discover.

The Castle Heritage Centre, Art Galleries and Gift Shop are open 7 days a week from 10am until 5pm with free entry. Café Limelight on site have the perfect back drop to view the beach and stunning grounds with a perfect summer menu to choose from.
