Seasonal Programme 2024

Here at The Heritage Centre, we are celebrating the seasons by inviting you and your family to enjoy a whole host of free activities.

Funded by Bude-Stratton Town Council, we have lots of activities for you to enjoy. Our programme is open to the public, seven days a week, all year through.

With some focus days on The Castle Lawn, you can enjoy a variety of free events throughout the summer and some inspirational events indoors as the season turns cooler.

Kids Festive Village Workshops

Join us in this fun, festive activity, to design and decorate your own house, which will be a part of our Winter Village Display at our Festive Light Show on December 18th.  

📌 We will be running two FREE craft workshops on Tuesday 11th December and Monday 16th December from 3.30pm until 5pm. 

Fun for children of any age. All materials will be provided, but please wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting messy.

Free Castle Heritage Tours

Join Heritage Curator Janine King, for a guided tour of The Castle at our Heritage Festival. Built in 1830 by Sir Goldsworthy Gurney as one of his many experiments, today it houses a unique collection of artefacts. Discover more about Bude’s fascinating and diverse history, as well as the history of The Castle itself and its past residents.

â„đïļ Tours will last approximately 1 hour and commence at 11am. Please meet at the main entrance to The Castle approximately 15 minutes before we depart. The tour is accessible for wheelchair users with limited Disabled Parking next to the entrance at the top of the driveway.

Free Gurney Explorer Trail

Every School Holiday and Half- Term you can join in on our Heritage Detective activities and become a ‘Gurney Explorer’. Pick up your FREE Gurney Explorer Activity Sheet from Cafe Limelight on the first floor at The Castle. Search The Castle and see if you can find him with a secret letter. Collect all the letters and spell our secret word. Don’t forget to pop back up to the Cafe for your free sticker.

The Gurney Explorer activity is open all day, everyday during School Holidays and Half-Term days. 

📌 The next Gurney Explorer is from Friday 25th October until Monday 4th November. Opening at 10am everyday until closing.

Free Fossil Fish Trail

Look out for our resident Fossil Fish awesome twosome: ‘Neet and Strat’. These two have some fascinating facts to tell you about our Heritage and even has some tasks for you to complete.

Can you find them all?

The Fossil Fish Trail is a FREE activity, open all year round and has no activity sheet. Just visit, explore and discover.

Free Victorian Games

Join us this October half term for some fun with Heritage Games.
We’ve got Marbles, Spinning tops, Yo-Yo’s, Jacks and Diablo’s for you to play with, so why not join Janie in The Willoughby Gallery on Tuesday 29th and Thursday 31st October from 11am until 12pm.

Christmas Tree Craft Workshops and Competition

Come along and decorate your own wooden Christmas tree at The Castle to be in with a chance of winning a prize in our Christmas Tree Competition. Judging will be done by Santa and his Elves on Sunday the 1st December.

There will be prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd winners, which can be collected from Santa on Sunday the 1 December at The Castle between 12pm and 2pm.

There are two workshops to choose from, each child’s place costs ÂĢ1. You can pay for your place online at: https://wegottickets.com/event/633610.

Choose from Workshop One, starting at 11am until 12pm. Or, Workshop Two, starting at 1pm until 2pm. Both workshops will be in The Blanchminster Room on Saturday 23rd November 2024.

Free Tealight Wreaths Workshop

Join Emma Banford in these fun Christmas Tealight Wreaths at The Castle. In this FREE session each child will have the chance to decorate their own Christmas Wreath centre piece. Personalise your dÃĐcor this season or make a beautiful gift for a family member.  
 
These workshops are free (under 18’s only – children aged 12 years and under must be accompanied by an adult). Workshop One will commence at 12pm until 1.30pm. Workshop Two will commence at 2pm until 3.30pm. Both workshops will be at The Castle and held in The Blanchminster Room on Sunday 1st December.
