The annual Bude-Stratton Heritage Festival has become a firm favourite in the town’s events calendar. Originally called ‘Gurney Day’, which celebrated our famous Victorian inventor, Sir Goldsworthy Gurney, the festival has gone from strength to strength and not only celebrates the wide and varied heritage of Bude and Stratton but also the many community groups the area has to offer. It’s all for fun and a great way for the community to get involved!

We have live music, local artisan stalls, free workshops, face-painting, magic shows, heritage activities, Flotsam The Fool Circus Skills, Bude Toy Library, Tamar Vets Community Dog Show, community groups, lots of scrummy food and drink plus lots more.

Join our Outreach Officer, Matt Thomas in this heritage inspired walk. Starting and finishing outside the library, this guided walk will follow a circular route around the Lower Canal Basin, with The Heritage Centre Outreach Officer pointing out places and buildings of Historical interest, with information and old photographs. Approx 45-60mins. (NB Fairly accessible, flat walk but will need to be able to cross over the Lock gates).

The Castle Heritage Tour

⭐ ‘The Castle Heritage Tour’ with Janine King ⭐ 11am – 12pm ⭐

Join Heritage Curator Janine King, for a guided tour of The Castle at our Heritage Festival. Built in 1830 by Sir Goldsworthy Gurney as one of his many experiments, today it houses a unique collection of artefacts. Discover more about Bude’s fascinating and diverse history, as well as the history of The Castle itself and its past residents.

ℹ️ Tours will last approximately 1 hour and commence at 11am. Please meet at the main entrance to The Castle approximately 15 minutes before we depart. The tour is accessible for wheelchair users with limited Disabled Parking next to the entrance at the top of the driveway.

From metal detectorists, to field walkers, to mud-larkers, Finds Days offer finders the opportunity to show their finds to the F.L.O, who will identify them, and get them recorded on the public database, for future generations to enjoy and research. You can search the database here:
In 2023 alone, there were 829 active projects registered with the Scheme, using PAS data!
On February 24th from 11am to 3pm. Slots are assigned to 20 minutes, so use the link below to book your slot:
