Welcome to the launch of a new and exciting annual programme of events that showcase diversity and culture at it’s best! Divided into seasonal programmes, The Castle and Library Cultural Programme will be offering opportunities to immerse yourself into unknown worlds, rich culture, entertaining performances, lyrical melodies and pick up some skills along the way.

📍 We kick off our Spring 2025 programme in April with Elizabeth Dale (The Cornish Bird) sharing tales of forgotten Cornish Women and Jenny Carden (The Dartmoor Herbalist) shares an exploration into traditional remedies and healing practices. The team from Live History will be on hand to share their wisdom in a mystery writing workshop. Stay around for the team to return in in this interactive evening dinner where you get to solve a mystery from visiting characters from the past.

📖 Our visiting authors include; Annalisa Crawford who delves into dark contemporary fiction with a hint of paranormal. Paula Rooney who talks of her solo travels after her children have flown the nest and David Myers shares tales of travelling solo through Palestine.

🧸 For the children we have visiting author Julie Ann Keenor and her fairy tales, a magic workshop and Mazed Tales are showing the Piskey Path Puppet Show. Families can come along and enjoy the show from the Magical Tots in their music and dance performance and those interested in folk music can enjoy tales from Rev Sabine Baring Gould’s collection.

This does mean of course that our beloved Literary Festival will no longer be under our programming, but Bude Literary Festival will be continuing in a new guise and will be part of our own Cultural Programme in May 2025. The great news of course is that our partner, Richard Wolfenden-Brown of North Coast Arts, whom we have worked closely with since the start, in 2021, has teamed up with a small group of organisers who are able to continue the festival going forward. Richard and his team will be announcing news of the switch in leadership in the coming months, so look out for his posts on his North Coast Arts page and website. He can also be contacted on info@northcoastarts.co.uk
