Join in the Fun!

As we celebrate our Heritage Day, we invited you and your friends and family to join us in a day of fun, heritage, community and entertainment.

On Sunday 16th July 2023, we joined with Tamar Vets and several local groups to come together and enjoy a day of free entertainment and celebrate our heritage and community. This year we changed things a bit by adding Castle Heritage Tours for you to enjoy, finding out about our local culture and history. Unfortunately due to lack of interest in the past few years, we took a break from the local showcase entries.

We will be back next year for another day of culture, heritage and entertainment on Sunday 21st July 2024.

So what happened this year……….

Starting at 11am we had children’s and family entertainment with us all day. Flotsam the Fool’s Circus Workshop was on hand to deliver some fun interactive circus skills. Raymond’s Amusements was open for rides, as well as Claire Taylor providing free face painting all day. The main marquee was a host to workshops and activities throughout the day and Bude Croquet Club was on hand for a game or two. There were inflatables on the lawn to enjoy and we invited you to check out the Classic Cars at the bottom of the lawn.

On the Bandstand, there was live music from 11am, ending with The Countrymen. During the day, we had Magic Shows with Adrian Ward Magic and Heritage Activities with The Castle Team. New to this year is Castle Heritage Tours. Tamar Vets delivered the opportunity to take part in the local dog show with prizes and we had a visit from the Bude Barrel Morris troop!

There was a host of community and commercial stalls over The Castle Lawn, The Parkhouse and Methodist Lawn, this was a perfect opportunity to find out how you can get involved in the community, as well as food and drink available from our local producers . The whole event was organised by Bude-Stratton Town Council and was free entry!

COUNTRYMEN1-RT

The Countrymen are a Cornish Folk Rock Harmony group of five seasoned musicians. Performing with harmony vocals, their relaxed and light-hearted presentation style takes their audiences through a journey of Cornish culture and history. They sing their own arrangement of traditional and temporary songs, interspersed with the occasional pop cover.

The band was formed at The Countryman Inn near Launceston, which is where the band’s name originates, where they soon found a mutual love of singing in harmony.

Every child should be made to feel special and Adrian makes sure that that happens in his shows. It’s the children that make the magic happen. Adrian will invite those with their legs crossed, arms folded and the biggest smiles to help make the magic happen.

Sadly not everyone can come up to help so several tricks involve ALL of the children but we have two shows for you throughout the day to entertain the whole family.

Jason Thomas Performing Arts Studio was founded for students with the technical ability and passion for dance who wish to excel within the dance profession.  Steph Small and Jennifer Bassett are the choreographers and specialise in “Isolation Technique”, the students also stretch and will develop muscle control.

Students learn challenging high-powered dance routines in Street, Commercial Lyrical and Musical Theatre. The company performs regularly in community events and will be performing once again on The Castle Lawn to honour the tradition of this happening in times past.

They will be situated at the bottom of the drive and open to the public to use. There is a small cost to the rides, but the friendly team will be on hand to provide a day of fun and entertainment for the whole family.
